It's a year old review from XCAR, but it is the only review I've found to date where the journalist stops and considers that MINI isn't trying to make affordable utilitarian cars, and that the current F56 represents an entirely different class of vehicle.
The closing remarks about the new F56 Cooper are extremely powerful, and accurately capture the impression that I, as a Millennial, have of the MINI brand:
"And has anybody actually considered that for some people, this will be the only MINI they know? Someone born in the late 80's or early 90's would have been growing up when the original Mini was slowly dying; they will have seen the new car become the car-de-jour and keep an interpretation of that iconic shape rolling down the road. For them, a Mini isn't a car you can cheaply buy and easily fix in your driveway. No, for them, it's a small, good-looking car to aspire to.
The Mini is evolving, and that's a good thing."

I know and acknowlege all of this. I do not, however, have to like it.
(Also a millennial, by the way. The original Mini was only in production for the first five years of my life.)

If I recall correctly, Mini usually scores in the bottom 10 brands for reliability. Ford is usually near or in the top 10. I also recall that there was trouble with the clutches on early Minis, but presumably this has been fixed. And, to be sure, you usually don't buy a car in this class for reliability, you buy it for the fun factor.

Xcar always has a good review and video, this one is no exception. I wholeheartedly agree about the new Minis, it's the one I grew up knowing and want to own one at some point.

I think my problem with the car and the price is that they are built like crap and are guaranteed to be costly to own.

I love Mini's I test drove a '13 Cooper S and a Focus ST when I bought blacktruck. I abosulutely hate FWD. But, I almost bought the Mini. It is just an absolute blast to drive. Mini is trying to make small luxury car. You can't think of Mini's as a competitor for the Focus's and Fiesta's of the world it is a legitimate BMW 1-series competitor. If the reliability didn't scare me off, there would be one on my garage right now.

No. I wish I did. I have a friend who drives one in local A-Cross and we take trips into the mountain roads and he lets me drive. We have a blast.
I was referring to the awesome show we got to see today in the Pirelli Challenge online. Sorry for the mislead.
